“En Danseuse” | video · color · single channel · 16/9 · 11’03'' · 2023
From my studio located in the neighbourhood of Talpiot in Jerusalem, I enter the controversial dance choreographed by two workers spinning around the future Dome of Beit Tsafafa. Preparing for a casual performative risky ride, at the transition between the two neighbourhoods, I recreate the sound I imagine they produce, using the wheel of my bike and my studio ladder.
Inspired by Pasolini “La Forma della Città” (1974), the work offers a poetic engagement in filming the inconceivable transition between one neighbourhood and another. The discomfort is eventually released with a performative act of riding the bike “En danseuse” ( As a dancer) meaning in english “standing up on the pedals / out of the saddle”. Here without holding the handlebars, I stand to free ourselves.
